What is Art Expression?
Art Expression is a mental health activity in which participants are encouraged to use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem. A goal in our Art Expression Workshops is to improve or restore a client’s functioning and his or her sense of personal well-being.
Our organization works with people of all ages: individuals, couples, family groups, and communities. We provide services in group settings at community outreach facilities; schools; and open studios.
Involvement in art expression strengthens self-esteem, offers the opportunity for positive feedback, and allows a person to participate in art-making in a supportive environment. People can:
- explore personal potential and problems through non-verbal and verbal expression
- gain insight, unblock and move forward
- reconcile emotional conflicts
- foster self-awareness, personal growth, and wellness
- stimulate mental and physical activity
- channel anger and relieve depression
- grieve, cope, reminisce and adapt
- build confidence in art and interactive skills
Our organization does not provide certified art therapy from a licensed therapist. We do not diagnose, treat or provide medical advice to our participants. Our staff operates as Life Coaches facilitating Art Expression Workshops to those who would like to find a way to express themselves using art. Our organization donates our time and resources to those who are underprivileged unable to benefit from going to a license Art Therapist. We provide an alternative resource for those who would like to use art to express themselves easily available.
